Simpson off to the UK!

Jamie Simpson

South Sydney have released utility back Jamie Simpson, allowing him to join English Super League club Huddersfield

."I am really excited about the prospect of playing in the Super League and joining such a strong, proud Club as the Huddersfield Giants," Simpson said, "South Sydney are a great Club, I have really enjoyed my time with them & wish them well for 2011".

The 24-year-old Queenslander departs Redfern after playing 37 games for the Rabbitohs in three seasons following his first-grade debut in Round 13 of 2008, having scored 16 tries including a hat-trick against the Roosters in Round 20, 2009.

Simpson's 2009 Campaign was a solid one as he bagged nine tries for the year in 18 appearrances, the majority of them in the starting line-up, but he managed only eight matches last season which he only crossed twice.

Jamies' Manager, Col Davis is fully supportive of Simpon's decision to play in the Super League, “This is a great opportunity for Jamie to experience the culture & life of an overseas country while playing Rugby League," Davis said, "Huddersfield are very excited about what he can add to their footy team, He is a player well suited to the Super League style of play.”

Mitchell Frei A Chip off the Old Block

Harry Frei had to wait until he was 31 to hit the headlines which he did in style against the touring England cricket team at the Gabba in 1982. If things go to script, Harry's Son Mitchell won't have to wait that long.

At a strapping 105 kg backrow forward, the 18 year old is earmarkerd for NRL honours at the Broncos in the next few years.

It's great training with the NRL squad, but I'm not expecting to play first grade anytime soon. I've still got alot of growing up to do." Mitchell said. However Broncos coach Ivan Henjak said Frei deserved his chance and he would not completely rule out an NRL start this year. "You never say never," Henjak said, "He's put on 10kg since he came here at the end of 2009 and he's done everything right."

Alex Glenn Bulks up for Centre Shot

At 100kg, Alex Glenn is a long way off the behemoth-like build of South Sydney Rabbitohs superstar Greg Inglis.

But Glenn is 5kg heavier than last year and has the inside running to join Kangaroos Test Star Justin Hodges in the Broncos Centres in 2011.

Glenn is still widely regarded as a utility and, if given the choice, would play second row or lock for the chance to get his hands on the ball more often.

He played mainly at centre last year, and it is likely he will be there for the round 1 NRL match against North Queensland at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, March 12.
